Summary

To evaluate fisheries management approaches to the conservation of floodplain (varzea) habitats and their associated biodiversity. Project purpose : The evaluation of fisheries management approaches to the conservation of floodplain (varzea) habitats and the associated biodiversity. Project objectives : an analysis of the economic strategies of the different types of commercial fishers; an analysis of the responses of commercial fishers to alternative management measures; an analysis of the role of the fisheries sector within the Amazon regional economy; production of a socio-economic model to predict the responses of commercial fisheries to alternative management regimes.
