Summary
This project will mainstream biodiversity into Nepal’s community forest programme. Nepal’s three-decade long Community Forest programme has largely been successful in improving forest cover. However, its role in conserving biodiversity is contested due to its emphasis on extractive use and focus on a few timber species. This project will mainstream biodiversity conservation into Nepal’s Community Forest programme through participatory action research in a 6000ha remnant forest in Jalthal. The project will demonstrate strategies for integrating biodiversity into Community Forest plans and practice, communicate lessons, facilitate policy dialogues and provide input to Community Forest policy process
