Summary
This project aims to secure globally important biodiversity and local livelihoods in Kenya’s Yala Delta. The project will do this through gazettement of an 8,404-ha Community Conservation Area, underpinned by an integrated management plan implemented by a trained multi-stakeholder management committee, within the framework of a Land Use Plan adopted as government policy. Livelihoods will be improved by strengthening producer cooperatives (for papyrus, vegetables, fish, tourism, honey and chicken), benefiting c250,000 people and ensuring continued provision of vital ecosystem services. Project lessons will be widely shared.
