Summary

The final outcome will be the reduced deforestation of rainforests in Caribbean Guatemala, achieved through: the completion and improved management of a Regional Network of Protected Areas; the provision of direct financial incentives for the protection and restoration of 5,000 ha of high biodiversity community owned forests, ensuring over 137,000 £ of new income per year (over five years) for 500 families (and allocated as counterpart funding to the project by the National Forestry Institute); the development and validation of a REDD “Project Document”, including a FPIC process; and the implementation of a communication campaign on the values of biodiversity.
