To identify key elephant populations in Sumatra, assess their status using CITES/MIKE survey methods; protect these key populations from poaching and human–elephant conflict (HEC) while improving farmers’ livelihoods; and to train Indonesian nationals in HEC mitigation methods and CITES/MIKE survey methods to help the Government of Indonesia meet its obligations under CITES and the CBD.
